Inspirations of The Artist
I have a great passion for the natural world around me. I attune to the natural cycles and rhythms of life: be it the beauty of the changing textures and colours of the seasons; the energy of the sea, delicate hues of a high, far away vista. The small detail is a focus also: heavy rain through a woodland canopy, a frosty cobweb, bird song after rain.
“Recycling” , "Re-claimation", "Re-constitution" is at my heart!. I believe in the re-use and re-constitution of materials, having grown up with my Grandma's great influence of making-do with something that seemed expired turn into a beautiful something to use. I also believe there is far too much "stuff" in his throw away world! As an artist, I especially feel that myself and others have the capacity in all kinds of ways to lead the way, to inspire and create wonderful, innovative artworks from things that have had a previous use and life span.
I love working intuitively; enjoying materials and processes; giving myself an analytical critique on work in progress; being open to new influence and inspiration.
The above photgraphs were taken by self on holiday at Findhorn, Scotland 2008. It was the first time I had not taken a tradtional camera to use on holiday. This felt odd! As did, not going to the photoprocessing shop to get my film developed and then the waiting to collect the films. It was the magic of expectation I missed most. For holiday photgraphs I will continue to use my old trusty Pentax! And take some black and white film aswell!
